Saint Paul's School for Girls- Upgraded Windows
2000 servers to 2003 and ongoing network consulting including Microsoft
NOS, Exchange, WAN connectivity and security.
2001-Present:
Federal Government Facility, Columbia, MD (High Frequency
Direction Finding) - Designed a fault-tolerant
file system that included the design and construction of the hardware
to implement a Microsoft cluster solution. Installed and configured
hardware and software to provide firewall, networks stabilization, WAN
link connectivity through T1 channel mapping, mission critical and disaster
recovery methods. Ongoing consulting LAN/WAN and maintenance services.

Appraisal Group - Upgraded Netware
4 network to Netware 5.1, then Netware 6.0 and GroupWise 6.5.
1998-1999: Montgomery Community
College- Rick
Merriken, lead engineer and project manager for Phase II of a large-scale
migration for Montgomery College. Over 2000 machines were migrated in
a six month period in multiple locations countywide. In this position,
he developed all migration protocols and provided guidance to a team
of 5 engineers. Met regularly with the college staff and delivered periodic
status and exception reports. The project was completed successfully
ahead of time and within the specified budget.
1998: Bigdough.com,
Inc. - Staffed, trained and managed a team
that designed, installed and configured a Windows NT 4.0 network and
WAN. This was an upgrade from a Windows NT 3.51 Server with Windows
95 workstations (which required data migration) to Windows NT 4.0 Server
and Windows NT 4.0 workstations. Also added, were 20 new workstations,
configured software and installation of wiring, patch panels and hubs
for the new network.
1996: FSY Microwave, Inc.
- Designed, installed and configured a
Novell NetWare network including server and workstation software installation,
server hardware construction, and network cabling. Setup a GroupWise
e-mail server with Internet access.
1995: Pharmaco, LTD
- Performed server upgrades over time from NetWare
version 3.11 to 3.12 to 4.01 to 4.1. Rolled out corresponding client
software as well as 5 complete upgrade packages over a 4 year period.
1997- 2005: Maryland Historical
Society -
Project manager, Rick Merriken was in charge of the evolution of the
Society's network from a 2 server Windows NT 3.51 network to a 10 server
Windows 2000 network. The projects included building all hardware and
installing all software on 90 workstations and 10 servers. This includes
an ongoing sole source support contract.
1997: Maryland Historical
Society - Rick
Merriken, staffed, trained and managed a team that designed, installed
and configured the Windows NT network at the Society. Since then several
packages of workstation software have been rolled out to update and
improve e-mail, centralized fax service, data management, file and printing
services. A 300 page website was also created which includes secure
pages for web commerce.
